The Ultimate Paraguay Residency Travel Checklist

The Ultimate Paraguay Residency Travel Checklist

Paraguay is rapidly becoming the go-to destination for solo builders and tech founders. Between the low tax burden, the low cost of living, and the minimal physical presence requirements, it’s arguably the "Next Bali" but smarter.

If you are planning your trip to secure residency, you need to navigate the logistics carefully. Use this checklist to ensure your transition here is seamless.

1. Document Preparation

Before you even book a flight, your paperwork must be flawless. Most residency providers assist with this, but due diligence is on you.

Consistency is Key. Ensure your name matches exactly across your Birth Certificate, Criminal Record, and (if applicable) Marriage or Divorce Certificates. Note: If you have middle names appearing on some documents but not others, you may need additional legal affidavits to prove your identity.

Your documents must be Apostilled at the government level. A simple notarization is not sufficient for international residency applications.

Your criminal record check must be less than 6 months old on the day you submit your application in Paraguay. If you have lived in multiple countries recently, you may be required to provide criminal records from those jurisdictions as well.

2. Strategic Flight Planning

How you get to Asunción matters just as much as when you arrive.

Airlines may deny you boarding if you don't have proof of onward travel. If you aren't sure of your exit date, use a service like OnwardTicket to get a valid, temporary flight reservation for the airport check-in.

If you transit through Brazil, authorities often require a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate. If you don’t have one (or don't want one), route your travel through Chile, Argentina, or Colombia (only Bogota) instead to avoid this requirement.

3. Arrival & Local Logistics

Once you touch down at Silvio Pettirossi International (ASU), you have a few ways to get into the city.

4. Getting Internet in Paraguay

You’ll want the internet immediately. We recommend using a Claro prepaid SIM; it’s reliable, and you can grab the 10,000 PYG (approx. $1.50 USD or €1.30 EUR) starter pack. It is generally the best deal…but for longer use, read this small guide here.

5. Settling In

Where you choose to stay in Asunción changes the vibe of your trip significantly. Whether you want the "Founder Retreat" feel or a high-end apartment in the business district, location is everything.
